1Sky is a new campaign to build a movement at the scale of the climate challenge by communicating a pro-active vision, and advocating a clear, simple set of goals and policy initiatives. 1Sky was borne from the collective urgency and determination of a diverse group with many strengths, audiences, and organizing strategies. 1Sky aggregates that power. 1Sky is building a central staff in the DC area, and up to 50 organizers placed with partner organizations in target congressional districts around the country, and in key sectors, to carry out our mission.
Health Care Without Harm is a non-partisan, nonprofit educational organization and coalition of more than 473 organizations operating in 52 countries, working to transform the health care sector, without compromising patient safety or care, so that it is ecologically sustainable and no longer a source of harm to public health and the environment.
1Sky and Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) seek a Climate Health Coordinatorto lead and coordinate their efforts to engage and mobilize the progressive US health care sector on the 1Sky climate solutions platform and other Health Care Without Harm climate change initiatives.
Position Overview:
The Coordinatorwill work in coalition with a diverse set of NGO's, clinical, facility and administrative professionals, and other health-related groups, businesses, individuals, and communities to demonstrate strong health care sector support to address global warming at a scale appropriate its momentous challenge. The organizer willhave a dual reporting relationship to HCWH and 1Sky, and will be directed day to day by HCWH's climate/energy staff.
Responsibilities:
Implement field and outreach strategies in the health care community, including development of education materials, training in organizing, healthcare climate policy development, and outreach to key legislative officials.
Build coalitions among allies and nontraditional constituencies to grow broad healthcare sector support for the 1Sky solutions package and related HCWH programs
Help build, engage, and mobilize a network of healthcare professionals on climate issues, as laid out in the HCWH/1Sky "Deliverables" document.
Generate sector-focused and general media coverage.
Track and report campaign deliverables.
Support additional fundraising by HCWH/1Sky.
Qualifications:
Familiarity with and understanding of climate and energy-related issues
Knowledge of healthcare clinical and facility operations, energy use and culture.
Experience engaging and motivating health care professionals and senior administration.
1-3 years organizing experience in electoral, issue and/or legislative campaigns, lobbying, political science degree or similar.
Experience working collaboratively with other organizations with diplomacy.
Enjoy working under pressure, under deadline, and thinking quickly on your feet.
Works well independently, as part of a geographically dispersed team.
Excellent organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
Willingness to travel
